[28] John Howland II and Mary Lee

John Howland II was born in Plymouth on April 24, 1627. He was a son of [2] John Howland I and Elizabeth Tilley.

John Howland married Mary Lee in Plymouth on October 26, 1651.

Mary Lee was born circa 1630, probably in England. She was a daughter of Robert Lee and Mary Atwood [sister of John Atwood]. Her father was identified as present in Plymouth prior to January 3, 1636. Mary and her sister, Ann, were named in the will of John Atwood, dated October 20, 1643, as a child of John Atwood’s “brother and sister Lee.” “Ann Atwood widow sometimes wife unto Mr. John Atwood, gent…” identified in her will dated April 27, 1650, “a brother and sister now living in New Plym: aforesaid namely Robert and Mary Lee… bequeath unto them and their children…” The wills of both John Atwood and Ann Atwood also mention a “little kinsman” or “nephew” named William Crowe as an heir. On March 8, 1681 the Plymouth Court provided that “This Court sees cause and doe hereby settle the smale estate of Mistris Mary Lee of Barnstable deceased unto Ensigne John Howland of Barnstable for and towards satisfaction; for keeping her his said mother Mistris Mary Lee; the eight last years of her life.”

This ancestral line continues with their daughter, [46b] Hannah Howland.
